Maryan Jane Wain

I was born in 1958 and after living in Scotland for 14 years I’ve returned to my roots as I come from Newark originally. I trained as a nurse at City hospital in Nottingham and stayed there for six years after which I got married and moved up to Kinloss in Scotland. Not somewhere I’m in a hurry to move back to even though I did get to know a lot of people up there. I do go back up to visit occasionally. Before moving down here I did a two year childcare & education course and qualified as a nursery nurse. I am now in the process of being registered as a child minder. The people in Forres, where we lived after Kinloss, appear to be much more friendly and laid back than they are down here but the scenery didn’t really appeal very much-all hills and mountains. Once you've seen one you’ve seen them all really. The winters are long and the summers are short as well. Anyway back to me. When I was 15 I travelled to America on my own to stay with a penfriend and tour around the place for eight weeks. I stayed there during May and June and it was very hot! I have a brother and a sister who live in Newark as do my parents. My brother is at the moment working at Sandhurst with the army but he will be leaving quite soon. I was educated in Newark and went to Bailey Road infants and junior schools and then to Sconce Hills secondary modern school. I didn’t particularly enjoy it there as most of the teachers were useless and not interested in teaching. I then went to Newark Technical College mainly for something to do rather than get more qualifications. After that I worked at Balderton hospital for the mentally subnormal for two years. I loved it but what a dirty job it was! It has closed down due to the care in the community programme. Not a good idea. I then went to Nottingham to work in the modern hospitals there until I met Mike at a friends wedding and got whisked off to Scotland! But that’s enough about me!
