GREECE
All Greek alcohol is terrible firewater fit only for industrial uses but the local food is superb and very cheap. Seafood and lamb are the specialities. All parts of Greece except Athens are very picturesque. Greek place names are in greek and english but there are no spelling rules so expect one place to be spelt in various different ways!
Athens:- the harbour is quite picturesque but expensive with all the mega-yachts in. Athens has a serious smog problem when it’s hot and there’s no wind (most of the summer) The museum and parthenon are worth a visit. There is a huge porn cinema right in the city centre! Crete:- Chania (Hania, Canea etc.) area to be precise. Nice leather market and dockside cafes. There is a gorge to the SW which is worth a hike, but get out quick if it rains heavily as flash floods have killed people there before. Rhodes:- A real all purpose destination. Ace beaches, touristy bits, nightlife in Rhodes town. Take a boat trip to Simi, a nearby island. Lindhos is well worth a day. There is little worth seeing at the southern end. Nightlife is in Rhodes town.
Mikes tips:- For a taste of local life take a wander round the produce market. It’s massive so allow a few hours.
Mikes tips:- Eat where the locals eat even if it looks like a health nightmare. It will be cheap and you won’t get food poisoning, which is a distinct probability in the expensive tourist restaurants.
Mikes tips:- Keflaki is a nice lamb stew.
Maryan's tips:- Spring is the ideal time to go, it’s not too hot and the wild flowers are beautiful. Baklava is a lovely sweet.
Danielle's tips:- Even with my extremely limited palate I had to admit that the restaurants were superb. All the people love children. Hospitals are rather basic. I got badly sunburnt but was treated well as my Mum & Dad showed their gratitude. Other parents there were making it clear how little they thought of greek hospitals and their children were treated really badly and screamed a lot. I think they were charged a lot more as well.
