NORWAY Bergen:- The town named after a rucksack. The little museum is worth a look. The only nightlife we found was a bar and pizza place in the Bryygen (almost certainly spelt wrong) which is a group of ancient wooden buildings by the harbour. Both are expensive but recommended. Take a drive out into the hills around town for some excellent scenery. There is a good fish market on the quay some days. On the face of it there seems little to recommend here as it is just a quiet little town on the end of a long road that goes nowhere else but it was always a popular destination on Nimrods and I enjoyed it immensely. Definitely worth a call if touring Norway. The base is now more civilian than military, but the military bit is like something out of the old Commando comic books, without giving away too many of their secrets!
Norwegians are extremely friendly people and Norway is a very beautiful place. Flying round the Fjords is a great experience. However, all booze is exorbitantly taxed so selling your duty free at a massive profit would be extremely easy, should you be the sort of naughty person who might do such a thing. Eating out is also very expensive, in fact so expensive that not many people do it, so there are few restaurants or cafes about at all.
